What is Cartilage Replacement?

Cartilage replacement refers to a group of advanced surgical procedures used to repair or regenerate damaged articular cartilage – the smooth, slippery tissue that covers the ends of bones in your joints. Unlike other tissues in the body, cartilage does not heal well on its own and damage can lead to pain, swelling, stiffness and the early development of osteoarthritis.

Cartilage replacement aims to restore the joint surface, reduce symptoms and delay or prevent the need for joint replacement, particularly in younger, active patients.
