What is MACI / ACI?

MACI (Matrix-Induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) and ACI (Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) are advanced surgical procedures designed to repair damaged articular cartilage in the knee using the patient’s own cells.

These procedures are ideal for treating focal cartilage defects – isolated areas of damage that have not yet progressed to widespread arthritis.
Unlike joint replacement or debridement, MACI/ACI helps to regenerate new, healthy cartilage tissue that closely mimics natural cartilage, offering long-term pain relief and improved joint function.
