Microfracture/deNovo/Biocartilage
Surgery for Cartilage Injuries
Cartilage injuries in the knee can cause pain, swelling, and limit mobility – and if left untreated, they can lead to early osteoarthritis.
Unlike other tissues, cartilage has limited capacity to heal on its own.
At Dr Shane Blackmore’s Sunshine Coast practice we offer advanced cartilage restoration techniques, including Microfracture, DeNovo cartilage implantation and BioCartilage augmentation, to repair and regenerate damaged joint surfaces.
Microfracture – Microfracture is a minimally invasive arthroscopic procedure that stimulates the body’s natural healing response. Tiny holes are created in the bone beneath the cartilage defect to allow marrow cells to rise to the surface and form a clot that turns into repair tissue.
DeNovo Natural Tissue Grafting – DeNovo uses juvenile cartilage allograft tissue to repair articular cartilage defects. The graft is placed directly into the defect site and secured, where it integrates with the patient’s native tissue.
BioCartilage Augmentation – BioCartilage is a scaffold made from dehydrated cartilage, used to enhance microfracture outcomes. It provides a stable environment for cells to grow and form new cartilage-like tissue.
If you’re experiencing knee pain, swelling, or limited movement due to cartilage damage, early treatment can make all the difference.
